FAIRTAX STATUS REPORT

The FairTax movement is going strong my friends, stronger than you might imagine. I can assure you that the FairTax is attracting an ever-increasing degree of attention in Washington. I wish I could share the details, but the wonderful world of politics is such that it is much better to let the people involved spill the beans than to jump the gun by disclosing their interest or involvement ahead of time.
There have been three events in recent months that have really peaked interest among the political class. First was the debut of The FairTax Book on the New York Times Bestseller's list for paperbacks. We're still there ranking very high in the business category. Second was the FairTax rally in Atlanta a few months ago. When we packed a room full of 4,500 people, and then turned another 4,000 away, the shockwaves were felt inside the Beltway the very next day. On the morning after the rally Congressman Linder, who had returned to Washington overnight, was buttonholed by a number of colleagues to explain "just what it was you did there in Atlanta last night."
Last week's Georgia primaries in Georgia also opened some eyes. The FairTax was on the Republican primary ballot in three metropolitan Atlanta counties, and in each county the idea of replacing the income tax with the FairTax was approved by over 85% of the voters. When a reform idea as huge as the FairTax receives that type of an approval rating people, especially politicians, take note.
Another thing happened last week that impressed a number of high-ranking DC political-types. I received about 15 emails from people who told me that they originally had no intention of participating in the primary ... UNTIL, that is, they heard me say that the FairTax was on the ballot. Those emails are now in the hands of some of the most powerful people in Washington.
Simply put --- when you have an issue that (1) sends people to the polls who would otherwise not vote, and (2) gets the support of over 85% of the voters, you have an issue that can drive an election. Politicians know it.
Now ... what's next?

End the Death Tax Once and For All

End the Death Tax Once and For All

[TAKE ACTION NOW]

We are expecting the United States Senate to vote to permanently repeal the Death Tax next week. It is vital that you write your Senators and let them know there is no place for the government to tax individuals their entire life and then seize half of all their assets upon death. If the measure passes, the legislation will go to President Bush’s desk for his signature and will be a major victory for taxpayers to end this onerous and unfair tax once and for all.
Last year, the House of Representatives voted overwhelming to permanently repeal the onerous Death Tax 272-162. More than 40 Democrats joined with Republicans to end this immoral tax for good.
The vote next week will be good for not only taxpayers but also the economy. Small businesses and family farms are forced to sell their properties upon inheritance because the tax bill is so large. As a result, workers are losing their jobs because of the destructive tax. And when that happens, our local economy suffers.
Repeal of the death tax will result in an additional 225,000 jobs a year being created and will work to keep local jobs from being destroyed.
Tell Congress to End the Death Tax once and for all!

FairTax Rally a Great Success

On May 27th, one of the largest papers in the country, "The Atlanta Journal-Constitution," stated, "...John Linder (R-Ga.) may have birthed a political movement when their Fair Tax Rally, emceed by guys in suits, drew a rock-concert attendance. ..." Click here to participate in this historic movement by contacting the president: http://www.fairtax.org/actionalert.html . Thousands of your fellow FairTaxers have faxed, e-mailed or called the White House to ask President Bush to support enactment of the FairTax. Please join them today, if you have not, and help us raise a national voice of true citizenship in getting our government back on track. Only our combined effort will turn Washington around and replace the income tax with a common sense tax system. Now is the moment for this message to the White House: http://www.fairtax.org/actionalert.html .The FairTax Rally at the Gwinnett Convention Center in Georgia just wasn't big enough for the supporters of the FairTax. 4,500 people filled the seats and the walls within the convention center Wednesday night to show their support for the FairTax! The packed house caused thousands of supporters to be turned away. Fire marshals had to step in, as they had to stop admittance due to fire code capacity. Congressman John Linder addressed the audience and joked about the lack of room for all the supporters, "We're sorry," Linder said. "Next time, we'll get you a bigger building." Herman Cain and our own FairTax Communications Director, Ken Hoagland, had people coming out of their seats as they talked about how to fulfill the Founding Fathers' promise that this can be a government "of, by, and for the people." The passion in the room was electric. The crowd also heard from popular TV and radio personalities such as Sean Hannity, Clark Howard, John Stossel, and Neal Boortz. Boortz went on radio station News/Talk 750 WSB an hour before the show was set to start to tell supporters who were on their way that there was no more room. WSB broadcasted the rally live as thousands of supporters who couldn't get in listened just outside the convention center. Linder informed the crowd that the Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert (R-IL), has set up a meeting with President Bush for Linder to have an opportunity to pitch the FairTax legislation. Linder acknowledged the large scope of this project. "Big ideas take time," he said. "But we've started to move the country, and they will start to move the Congress." The FairTax grassroots team from the national headquarters office in Houston and the twenty plus volunteers from as far away as the state of Utah worked diligently to keep up with the thousands wanting FairTax T-shirts, DVDs, and all types of FairTax materials. WSB had books going like hotcakes! T-shirts and DVDs were gone within 20 minutes of the doors being opened. The event was truly a grassroots extravaganza. We collected nearly 2000 petitions and nearly 5 percent of those were from out of state. This would not have been possible without your support! Thank you for all that you do! SENDING YET ANOTHER MESSAGE

Yesterday we got the first numbers for sales of the soft cover edition of The FairTax Book. We debuted as No. 3! Now ... a little historical perspective. In the 1950's Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Weisel's book "Night" debuted as No 1. on the New York Times paperback list. Then in 1966 Truman Capote's "In Cold Blood" debuted as No. 2. Now, in 2006, The FairTax Book debuts as No. 3! This is the highest first week for a paperback in 40 years!

The message to the political class here is clear. This FairTax idea has legs. It has captured the imagination of a huge segment of the American population. Virtually every single day of every single week there are published letters to the editors of American newspapers from readers pushing the FairTax idea and asking for action. Many politicians are trying to ignore this tax reform idea simply because it transfers much too much power from the political class to the people. It's up to the people to keep the heat on. The FairTax Book is on the shelves at your local book store right now. Go buy a few and help spread the word!

Fair Tax has Another Co Sponsor!

Congressman Tom Feeney (FL-24) contacted Congressman John Linder's office last week and requested that he be added as a co-sponsor of the FairTax. He was included! With the addition of Spencer Bachus (AL-6), John Sullivan (OK-1), Todd Tiahrt (KS-4), Jerry Moran (KS-1), and Tom Feeney all in this calendar year, HR 25 now has 50 co-sponsors. For comparison purposes, you should know that we had only 46 co-sponsors at this same time in the last Congress. Your work is paying off!
We are making progress and, as we head into tax season and the next elections, it is imperative that your support of the FairTax be heard. In a sea of people, it can be difficult to realize the value you have in the political process, but it is significant.
Your support is needed in recruiting others like yourselves. People who believe that the best way to address the ailments of this country's income tax, payroll tax, capital gains tax, unemployment tax, and other taxes under the federal tax system is to replace them all with the FairTax! Click here to send information to others about the FairTax today: http://www.fairtaxvolunteer.org/tell_a_friend/index.html .
In order to pass the FairTax, the membership needs to grow exponentially. To place a quantifiable dimension on the strategy, we need 3000 members (informed, committed, advocates) of the FairTax in each congressional district with 10,000 members in those districts in which there are congressmen or women on the Ways and Means committee. Can you help us do that today? Can you get signed petitions in your neighborhood? Organize a block walk in your area? Speak to local farm groups? Work a booth or a convention and get e-mail sign ups? Please contact us at volunteer@fairtax.org with your city, state, and phone number if you can help today. We will send your e-mail on to local organizers ready and waiting for your support!
National training sessions occurred in nine cities in the last 90 days. In these cities, over 1100 FairTax supporters spent an entire day learning methods and strategies on how to make the FairTax a household word in their communities. Volunteers shared experiences and grouped together to create local strategies. Over 110 new volunteer leaders have emerged from those sessions in NC, SC, GA, FL, TX, OH, and AL. Membership in the last few months has grown by thousands. People are joining. Volunteers are emerging. Growth is strong. Weekly meetings and briefings are occurring all over the state in FL, GA, VA, KS, MO, and OH. Monthly meetings are occurring in multiple locations in many other states.
Jump start the FairTax today in your community. E-mail us at volunteer@fairtax.org . Co-sponsors are signing up. But so much more must be done.
Join us today by sharing the news about the FairTax and the freedom we offer from a tyrannical tax system with your associates, co-workers, friends, and family at http://www.fairtaxvolunteer.org/tell_a_friend/index.html.
Thank you for all that you do!
